The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights has launched a draft Legal Notice aimed at regulating several professions and trades supplementary to the veterinary profession. These include Listed Veterinary Nurse, Registered Veterinary Nurse, Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technologist, Groomer, Farrier, Fish Health Specialist, and Animal Trainer.

The proposed legislation establishes a framework for the registration and licensing of these roles to ensure a high level of professionalism and the proper treatment of animals. The public consultation period will remain open for five weeks, and feedback or queries must be submitted through konsultazzjoni.gov.mt. A consultation meeting will also be held on Wednesday, 2nd July 2025, and those wishing to attend are kindly requested to register their interest by sending an email to [email protected] by Monday, 23rd June 2025.
